McLaren GTS replaces the GT
By CARSIFU | 20 December 2023LONDON: McLaren has unveiled its latest addition to the lineup, the GTS, positioned as a replacement for the GT model.
Engineered to cater to drivers seeking both the dynamic excellence of a McLaren supercar and the comfort required for everyday and extended drives, the GTS promises a unique blend of performance and practicality.
CEO Michael Leiters describes the GTS as a car true to McLaren's racing DNA, offering multiple layers of ability. The vehicle maintains McLaren's core attributes, such as a lightweight carbon fiber construction and a unique monocoque chassis, providing class-leading power-to-weight ratio and unmatched driving dynamics.
While retaining the elegant exterior lines of the GT, the GTS introduces visual enhancements, making it more assertive. The 'hammerhead' signature styling at the front has been updated, featuring pronounced air intakes, and the rear fenders now boast taller air scoops for increased airflow into the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine.
The GTS, weighing just 1,520kg, holds the title of the lightest car in its class, with a segment-best power-to-weight ratio of 418PS per tonne. The V8 engine's power has been increased to 635PS, enabling impressive acceleration. With launch control activated, the GTS hits 0-100kph in 3.2 seconds and 0-200kph in 8.9 seconds. The car can reach a top speed of 326kph.
The GTS features a seven-speed SSG transmission with three driving modes: Comfort, Sport, and Track. The electro-hydraulic steering system, adaptive damping suspension, and carbon ceramic braking system are all uniquely tuned for the GTS to optimise its mid-engine position and lightweight construction.
In terms of practicality, the GTS includes a carbon fiber rear structure, providing a large and versatile luggage space of 420 litres behind the passenger cell, in addition to a 150-litre storage in the nose.
McLaren said the total cargo space of 570 litres makes the GTS the most practical new supercar on sale today.
The interior is designed for comfort and luxury, featuring Nappa leather-trimmed Comfort seats and various optional visual carbon fiber elements.
The GTS also comes equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, a 7-inch central touchscreen infotainment system, and optional features like a Bowers & Wilkins premium audio system.
Alongside an extended and refreshed palette of exterior paints including new options such as Mantis Green, Tanzanite Blue and Ice White, there is a new colour exclusive to the GTS from launch: Lava Grey. This metallic finish incorporates a shimmering red fleck that catches the light to create a distinctive effect that marks it out from other shades of grey.
Further additions include a new 10-spoke Turbine lightweight forged alloy wheel; the standard wheel is a 10-twin-spoke forged alloy wheel.
This GTS is designed to offer excellent visibility and a vehicle lift function.
It comes with a standard three-year vehicle warranty with unlimited mileage, as well as a three-year paint warranty and a 10-year anti-perforation warranty. It is eligible for the McLaren Extended Warranty, which can be purchased in 12- or 24-month periods up to a total warranty of 12 years. Three years of vehicle servicing is included with the McLaren Service Plan.
