Mercedes-AMG developing its first in-house electric SUV
By CARSIFU | 08 November 2024AFFALTERBACH (Germany): Mercedes-AMG is developing an all-electric SUV in-house for the first time in its 57-year history.
Named "Born in Affalterbach," the new high-performance off-roader is built on the proprietary AMG.EA electric platform, a breakthrough in the brand’s vehicle development.
Initial test-drives are planned for winter, marking a significant milestone for the performance division of Mercedes-Benz.
Historically, high-performance SUVs have been a core part of Mercedes-AMG’s lineup, dating back to the launch of the ML 55 AMG over 25 years ago.
The brand now offers six SUV model lines, including the GLA, GLB, GLC, GLE, GLS, and EQE SUV, with the G 63 remaining its flagship model.
This latest project is only the second vehicle on the AMG.EA electric platform, following an earlier model currently in testing.
Mercedes-AMG GmbH management board chairman Michael Schiebe said the new SUV combines AMG’s performance ethos with electric vehicle efficiency.
"AMG First, EV Second," Schiebe stated, underscoring that AMG’s electric SUVs aim to preserve the brand's core focus on driving emotion and high performance.
With this new model, Mercedes-AMG aims to capture growing customer interest in high-performance SUVs while setting a new standard in the electric off-road segment.
