Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E Performance: RM2.17mil, 816hp/1,420Nm, plug-in hybrid

KUALA LUMPUR: The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E Performance has arrived, priced from RM2,168,888 (on-the-road without insurance) and is the most powerful SL ever built.

"The AMG SL 63 S E Performance redefines open-top performance with its innovative hybrid technology, seamlessly blending electric boost with V8 power for thrilling acceleration and grand touring luxury," said Mercedes-Benz Cars Malaysia vice president, marketing and sales Nadia Trimmel.

It is the fifth model to feature AMG’s E Performance hybrid technology.

It delivers a jaw-dropping 600kW (816hp) and up to 1,420Nm of system torque, combining the handcrafted AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine with an electric drive unit for explosive power and instant response.

Launching from 0 to 100kph in just 2.9 seconds and topping out at 317kph, this powerhouse merges supercar-level performance with everyday usability.

With AMG Active Ride Control with active roll stabilisation and rear-axle steering, the new SL 63 S E Performance offers dynamic agility and luxurious comfort.

The roadster features a classic soft top and optional 2+2 seating.

For individualisation, customers can choose from numerous design packages.

The AMG Night Package with certain features in high-gloss black, the AMG Aerodynamics Package with additional flics, or the AMG Exterior Carbon Fibre Package set special highlights.

The AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine on the front axle is also combined with an electric drive unit on the rear axle.

Technologies proven in the Formula 1 hybrid racing cars of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team are featured here.

Meanwhile, the 6.1kWh lithium-ion battery offers 13km of all-electric range.

Charging takes place via the installed 3.7kW on-board charger with alternating current at a charging station, wallbox, or household socket.

There are eight AMG Dynamic Select driving programmes namely “Electric”, “Battery Hold”, “Comfort”, “Smoothness”, “Sport”, “Sport+”, “RACE”, and “Individual”.

The performance hybrid usually starts silently (“Silent Mode”) in the “Comfort” driving programme when the electric motor is switched on.

The interior features powered AMG Performance seats with integrated headrests and ventilation openings in the seat backs.

Three massage programmes ensure excellent long-distance comfort.

One- and two-tone Nappa leather is included, as is the particularly elegant Manufaktur upholstery in Nappa leather with diamond quilting.

There is also the active aerodynamic element, which is hidden in the underbody in front of the engine, that contributes to balanced driving behaviour.

This carbon profile is an exclusive AMG development.

It reacts to the position of the AMG driving programmes and automatically extends downwards by around 40mm at 80kph.

Meanwhile, the extendable rear spoiler integrated into the boot lid can change its position depending on the driving condition.

From speeds of 80kph, the spoiler adopts five new angular positions to either optimise driving stability or reduce air resistance.

There is also active rear-axle steering. Depending on the speed, the rear wheels steer either in the opposite direction (up to 100kph) or in the same direction (faster than 100kph) as the front wheels.

The system therefore enables both agile and stable driving behaviour.
