SINGAPORE: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has previewed two upcoming models for the Malaysian market, with the all-new electric GLC sports utility vehicle (SUV) and the compact CLA 200 AMG Line four-door coupe.
The all-electric GLC will be offered in Malaysia in two variants, starting with the GLC 300 4MATIC electric Avantgarde at an estimated RM389,000, while the GLC 300 4MATIC electric AMG Line Plus will go for RM399,000.
The CLA 200 AMG Line's price is estimated at RM275,000 and will roll out of the assembly plant in Pekan, Pahang, as a locally assembled (CKD) vehicle.
Under the Agility+ plan, monthly repayments are estimated to start from RM4,288 for the latest GLC, while the CLA 200 AMG Line will be going for RM2,888.
The financing packages include a fifth-year extended limited warranty Star Gold, and four Compact Service Packages.
Pre-bookings are now open, with the first 100 customers for each model to receive passes to an exclusive Mercedes-AMG F1 Party.
The preview highlights Mercedes-Benz's approach of offering both fully electric and electrified internal combustion powertrains as it expands its latest model range.
The electrified GLC is built around an 800V electrical architecture and features a new front-end design with an illuminated radiator grille that incorporates 942 backlit polycarbonate dots and an illuminated Mercedes-Benz star.
The dual-motor all-wheel-drive system produces 310kW (421hp) and 800Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 4.7 seconds before reaching a top speed of 210kph.
Power comes from an 85kWh usable lithium-ion battery, providing a WLTP range from 523km to 616km.
The latest GLC variant is able to accept up to 22kW of slower AC charging, and use a faster DC charger of up to 320kW which can add up to 255km of range with a quick 10-minute charge or bring the battery's State-of-Charge from 10% to 80% in about 22 minutes.
With the GLC having a wheelbase that's 80mm longer than the internal combustion engine (ICE) model at 2,972mm, front and rear legroom is said to have been increased by 13mm and 47mm respectively.
Its 570-litre boot capacity can be expanded to 1,740 litres with the rear seats folded down, and a 128-litre front luggage compartment under the front hood is also available.
Inside, the dashboard is dominated by a 9,930mm MBUX Hyperscreen running on the new MB.OS operating system, while its artificial intelligence functions draw on technologies from Microsoft and Google, including ChatGPT and Google Vertex AI.
Meanwhile, MBM also previewed the locally-assembled CLA 200 AMG Line, which has a 1,499cc turbocharged petrol engine paired to an eight-speed 8G-eDCT dual-clutch transmission and an integrated 48V electric motor.
The powertrain produces a combined 135kW (184hp) and 330Nm, enabling the CLA 200 to accelerate from 0-100kph in 8.0 seconds before reaching a top speed of 232kph.
The integrated electric motor provides additional response at low speeds and allows the CLA 200 to operate purely on electric power if needed.
The petrol engine can also be decoupled from the drivetrain during coasting at speeds of up to 100kph, while energy recuperation of up to 25kW is available across all eight gears.
Having such features contribute to a claimed fuel consumption of about 5.0 litres per 100km.
For external fixtures and fittings, the CLA 200 AMG Line will be fitted with an AMG Line exterior, 19-inch AMG five-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, Multibeam LED headlights and an illuminated radiator grille featuring the Mercedes-Benz pattern.
Inside, the cabin will feature the MBUX Superscreen that combines a 10.25-inch driver display with 14-inch centre and front passenger screens.
Mercedes-Benz Cars Malaysia president and CEO Martin Schulz said the electric GLC marked a new chapter for the brand's popular SUV.
"With its reimagined design, cutting-edge technology, and powerful driving dynamics, it creates an experience that feels both progressive and reassuringly familiar," he said.
On the locally assembled CLA 200, Schulz said the model gives Malaysian customers greater choice between powertrains.
"As a locally assembled model, it combines the unmistakable character of the CLA with outstanding efficiency, intelligent technology, and elevated comfort," he said.
Mercedes-Benz Malaysia's website lists the new electric GLC as available for pre-order, while the CLA petrol is listed as an upcoming model.
