Mercedes-Benz EQS EQS 400 sedan updated: Up to 810km (WLTP), new 800V tech, steer-by-wire

STUTTGART: The Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan gets a significant update, with more than a quarter of the vehicle’s components newly developed, updated or refined.

Among the most significant revisions are a new 800-volt architecture, in-house electric drive unit, two-speed rear transmission, MB.OS operating system and a first for a German-made series production car – the introduction of steer-by-wire technology as an option.

The new EQS 400 offers an increased usable battery capacity of 112kWh and an impressive WLTP-tested driving range of 810 kilometres.

The EQS 400 utilises an 800-volt electrical architecture that enables DC fast charging at up to 350kW.

At a high-power DC charging station, up to 320km of WLTP-tested driving range to be added in 10 minutes.

Intelligent charging architecture also supports efficient charging at 400-volt stations, where the EQS 400 can utilise DC charging at up to 175kW.

A two-speed transmission on the rear axle is designed to combine strong performance with improved efficiency.

Recuperation performance in the EQS 400 has also been significantly increased, allowing up to 385kW of energy to be recovered during braking.

The new EQS 400 sedan’s rear-mounted electric motor produces up to 270kW and 505Nm, enabling a 0-100kph sprint in 6.2 seconds.

Meanwhile, steer-by-wire technology is designed to improve precision and manoeuvrability while reducing steering effort.

It is paired with a flatter, yoke-style steering wheel.

Combined with rear-axle steering of up to 10 degrees, steer-by-wire enhances low-speed agility while also maintaining stability and confidence at higher speeds.

Alternatively, the standard electromechanical steering retains a traditional steering wheel.

The new EQS 400 sedan has a reshaped bonnet with pronounced power domes, redesigned front apron and illuminated, star-pattern grille with chrome accents.

At the rear, there is a full-width light strip incorporating new helix elements, as well as a redesigned AMG-style rear bumper with more prominent diffuser ribs and a full-width chrome accent.

Standard exterior equipment includes 21-inch aerodynamic multi-spoke light-alloy wheels painted black with a high-sheen finish, Digital Light headlights and a panoramic sliding sunroof.

As the first Mercedes-Benz model to feature the MBUX Hyperscreen in 2021, the EQS Sedan established a digital benchmark that is further advanced in the new EQS 400.

The three displays merge beneath a single glass surface, spanning over 55-inches.

The standard Burmester 3D surround sound system comes with 15 speakers, and 710 watts of output with Dolby Atmos technology.

As standard, the new EQS 400 features the latest-generation Digital Light system with micro-LED technology, delivering a high-resolution lighting field around 40 per cent larger than before while consuming up to 50 per cent less energy.

Its dynamic Ultra Range high beam can illuminate up to 600 metres ahead.

A new-generation driver assistance system uses a powerful computing architecture supported by 27 sensors.

Standard assistance functions include Blind Spot Assist Plus, Lane Keeping Assist, speed limit warning, Brake Assist, emergency stop, evasive steering functions, Exit Warning, Manoeuvring Assist and a reversing camera.

MB.Drive Parking Assist can also identify parking spaces more effectively, supports diagonal parking and can manoeuvre the vehicle automatically at speeds of up to 5kph.

Airmatic air suspension is standard on the EQS 400 and combines adaptive damping with cloud-connected Car-to-X information to anticipate certain road conditions ahead.
