Mercedes-Benz Malaysia issues recall of older Merc models over airbag risk
By CARSIFU | 10 November 2021
PETALING JAYA: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia is conducting a safety recall of some models linked to the infamous Takata airbag issue that has affected automakers globally.
Locally, affected passenger cars include: 169 (A-Class), 203, 204 (C-Class), X204 (GLK), 207 (E-Coupé/ Convertible), 212 (E-Class), 164 (ML- and GL-Class), 251 (R-Class), 171 (SLK) and 197 (SLS AMG) from production period 2004-2016.
All affected Mercedes-Benz owners can check their vehicle VIN on the Mercedes-Benz microsite http://mb4.me/airbagrecall. They can also call up their authorised dealers or Mercedes-Benz Customer Care Centre 1-800-88-1133 to confirm if their car has been identified for recall.
The recall would enable Mercedes-Benz Malaysia to check if the airbags need to be replaced.
Should the airbags need replacement, customers can use Mercedes-Benz's online booking facility to schedule the change, subject to parts availability. The replacement is free of charge.
All current-production passenger cars are not affected by the recall as they do not use Takata, or other manufacturers’, airbags that contain ammonium nitrate as the primary propellant.
