KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has previewed its latest ultra premium offering in the form of the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series.
The two-seater luxury open-top roadster has an estimated on-the-road without insurance price tag that starts from RM2.25mil, and customers are able to further bespoke the car's exterior and interior through Mercedes-Benz's configurator.
The SL 680 Monogram Series is said to be the first fully open-top Maybach in the brand's history that combines the performance of a roadster with the luxury expected of the Maybach name.

It is offered in two distinctive colour combinations starting with Red Ambience that pairs an obsidian black metallic upper section with Manufaktur garnet red metallic, while White Ambience combines obsidian black metallic with Manufaktur opalite white magno.
The exterior receives a number of Maybach-specific touches, including an illuminated chrome-finished radiator grille, illuminated Maybach lettering and an upright Mercedes star on the hood.
The hood also carries the Maybach pattern in graphite grey, a process that involves several stages of painting, sanding and finishing, with part of the work carried out by hand.

Other details include rose gold accents inside the headlights, a chrome windscreen frame, 21-inch Maybach forged wheels and silver brake callipers that bear the Maybach lettering.
At the rear, the car gets Maybach-signature tail lights, a dedicated diffuser, chrome trim and an aerodynamic double scoop behind the seats as well as a black fabric soft top which also bears a subtle Maybach pattern.
Power comes from a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine producing 585hp and 800Nm of torque, managed by a nine-speed 9G Tronic automatic transmission before sending it to the rear wheels with rear-axle steering and an electronic rear-axle locking differential for added agility and stability.

This allows the SL 680 to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 4.1 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 260kph.
Ride comfort is taken care of by Active Ride Control suspension system and soft engine mounts.
Inside, the two-seat cabin is finished in crystal-white Manufactur Exclusive Nappa leather, complemented by silver chrome trim and a crystal-white Microcut microfibre roof liner.

The seats feature a new floral design, while the cabin also gets a wood-and-leather multifunction steering wheel with stainless steel paddle shifters, stainless-steel pedals and illuminated Maybach door sills.
Comfort equipment includes Airscarf, Energizing Package Plus, heated and climate-controlled multicontour seats, massage functions, ambient lighting and Thermotronic automatic climate control.
A Burmester high-end 3D surround sound system and head-up display further add to the open-top touring experience.

Mercedes-Benz Cars Malaysia & Head of Region, Mercedes-Benz Cars Southeast Asia chief executive officer and president Martin Schulz said Maybach represents the highest expression of luxury within the Mercedes-Benz portfolio.
"With the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series, we are offering our customers a distinctive expression of this philosophy, bringing together our heritage of craftsmanship with a modern interpretation of luxury,” explained Schulz.
