Mercedes' Vision EQXX sets new record in Riyadh-Dubai run
By CARSIFU | 19 March 2024DUBAI: Mercedes-Benz's Vision EQXX has set a new record by completing a third 1,000+ kilometre long-distance journey without recharging, this time traversing the harsh environment of the Arabian Desert.
With energy consumption of only 7.4 kWh/100km (equivalent to 282 MPGe for gasoline vehicles), the Vision EQXX surpassed its previous best performance, even under temperatures of up to 34°C. This feat is part of the company's ongoing development of efficient electric platforms to meet global customer needs.
Starting from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and ending at the new Brand Centre in Dubai, UAE, the vehicle covered the 1,010km route in under 15 hours, proving its capacity for long-range travel with 309km of charge still remaining upon arrival.
The journey tested the vehicle's advanced thermal management system and solar roof under extreme conditions, with the solar cells contributing an additional 24km to the total range by harvesting 1.8 kWh of energy.
The technology demonstrated includes a multi-source heat pump, set to feature in the forthcoming Concept CLA Class, and an efficiency assistant that guides drivers in real-time to optimise energy use.
Mercedes-Benz emphasises the role of the driver in energy efficiency, with experienced professionals behind the wheel making the most of the intelligent systems on board.
The Vision EQXX also serves as an ambassador for electric mobility and luxury.
More than two years after it was unveiled, the Vision EQXX remains an eye-catching crowd puller.
During that time, it has also covered 23,340km testing its pioneering electric technology under a wide range of demanding real-life conditions.
The slippery drag coefficient of just 0.17 pairs with a sophisticated fastback design to represent a highly desirable ambassador for electric mobility.
In addition to the two previous road trips in Europe, Mercedes-Benz has also taken the Vision EQXX to audiences in the US and China.
This has given key global target groups the chance to experience for themselves a realistic, road-going example of luxurious and sustainable electric efficiency.
