MG previews key local specs of ZS Lux Hybrid+

KUALA LUMPUR: SAIC Motor Malaysia has previewed key local specifications of the new MG ZS ahead of its official launch.

The compact sport utility vehicle will be offered in two variants, namely the Lux Hybrid+ and Lux Turbo, although the turbocharged version is scheduled to arrive at a later date.

For the Lux Hybrid+, MG is using a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a 100kW electric motor and a 1.83kWh nickel cobalt manganese battery.

The hybrid system produces a combined 158kW and 465Nm, sent through a three-speed hybrid transmission. MG says the ZS Hybrid+ does the 0-100kph run in 8.7 seconds and can cover up to 870km on a full 41-litre tank.

The ZS measures 4,430mm long and 1,818mm wide, which MG says makes it the largest B-segment SUV in its class. Boot space is rated at 443 litres, expanding to 1,457 litres with the rear seats folded.

Inside, the SUV gets a 12.3-inch floating infotainment screen and a digital instrument cluster. MG Pilot driver assistance and MG iSmart connected services are also included.

SAIC Motor Malaysia managing director Emory Qi said the ZS variants were selected to suit different Malaysian buyers while strengthening MG’s local presence.

Also at the unveiling was SAIC Motor vice-president of global design Jozef Kaban, who spoke about MG’s evolving design direction.

Other models on display include the IM6 from Intelligence in Motion, SAIC’s premium electric vehicle brand. The IM6 is a D-segment electric SUV with up to 600km of WLTP range, 572kW and 802Nm.

The MG HS Hybrid+ was also shown, along with the MG QS, MGS5 EV and Cyberster.

Early MG ZS bookings can be made at RM99, with customers entitled to a RM3,000 rebate and three years of complimentary maintenance during the promotional period.

During the KL International Mobility Show 2026, from June 12 to 21, MGS5 EV bookings also come with a RM7,000 rebate, a free 7kW wallbox charger and RM1,000 charging credit.
