Michelin Primacy 5 extended to SUVs

KUALA LUMPUR: Michelin in Malaysia has widen its Primacy 5 offering to include sports utility vehicles (SUVs), covering both internal combustion engine and electric models.

The Primacy 5 is now available in 76 sizes for 16- to 22-inch wheels, at all Michelin’s authorised tyre dealers across the nation.

The recommended retail price starts from RM467 to RM1,639.

Designed to deliver peace of mind even on rough road conditions, the new SUV tyre variant features reinforced sidewalls for greater stability and impact resistance.

Other features include:

Premium Comfort Drive – Ranking Number 1 in silence and comfort with the lowest interior cabin noise, thanks to Michelin Silent Rib Gen-3 technology,

Safety Made to Last – With 16% shorter wet braking distance (new and worn) and Number 1 performance in the wet moose test, supported by Michelin EverGrip, Michelin EverTread, and Functional Elastomers.

Excellent Longevity – Through MaxTouch technology that maximises contact with the road and evenly distributes the forces of acceleration, braking and cornering for longer tread life without compromising safety.

EV Compatibility – Its high-performance tread compound that reduces rolling resistance by 10% to improve energy efficiency and extend the electric vehicle’s battery range.

Michelin Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei managing director Florentin Odenwald said the extended Primacy 5 line addresses the SUV and crossover market, which has grown significantly from just 11% of sales in 2010 to 42% in 2025.

"This extension adds 34 new fitments for 16- to 22-inch wheels, offering a broader range of sizing options to meet diverse vehicle and consumer needs," he said.

He said Malaysia is at an exciting inflection point, with EV adoption accelerating and SUVs dominating the roads.

"With the extension of the Primacy 5 range, we are meeting this shift head on, giving drivers of both electric and conventional SUVs a tyre that delivers on comfort, safety, and efficiency without compromise," he said.
