Michelin unveils four new motorcycle tyres

KUALA LUMPUR: Michelin has unveiled four new motorcycle Power tyre models, namely the 5, GP, Cup and Slick - priced from RM423 to RM706.

“All four new products are targeted at speed lovers, which serve as a core segment of our two-wheel customers. Looking for a sporty look, tread design, stability, and superior performance at high speed, this target group is sure to be satisfied with the Michelin Power range,” said Ross Shields, Michelin 2-Wheel commercial director for Asia.

“Since Michelin’s return as the official sole tyre supplier for MotoGP in 2016, the company has continued to use the technical advancements developed from fitting the world’s most exclusive and premier motorcycle racing championship, to advance the performance of tyres sold to riders around the world," he added.

The Power 5 and Power GP are road-oriented, using an innovative rubber compound that incorporates silica and carbon black.

The Power 5 was developed for maximum enjoyment in the dry and safety in the wet, with a tread void ratio of 11%. It is proven to deliver the best performance in the wet, compared to its main competitors - according to Michelin’s internal tests.

The Power GP – a 50% road, 50% track tyre – is billed as providing the best performance in both dry and wet conditions, compared to its main competitors.

It features a tread sculpture built for both road and track usage, slick shoulder areas for exceptional grip and stability on track, and a tread void ratio of 6.5%.

Meanwhile, the Power Cup and Power Slick are track oriented.

The Power Cup – a 10% road, 90% track tyre – is the treaded version of the road-legal track tyre.

The Power Slick – a 100% track tyre – is specifically targeted at trackday enthusiasts, offering rapid warm-up times.

Both tyre models are proven to provide the best lap-time and long-run performance - according to internal tests carried out versus main competitors at Cartagena Track, Spain, in June 2019 - offering the fastest lap times both over a single lap and over full race distances.

All four newly launched Power tyre models not only share common technologies from track to road – in terms of ACT+ tyre architecture, 2CT+ dual compound treads, and computer-optimised tread designs; but also feature the unique sidewall branding signature of Michelin’s patented ‘Premium Touch Technology’ that creates an esthetic contrast and shades of black with a velvet effect.

“Each of the newly launched tyres has its own specific performance characteristics through the use of high technology materials and casing design. A unique architecture, as well as a clever balance between flexibility and rigidity, offer high performance regardless of the lean angle taken by the rider and his motorcycle,” added Shields.
