KUALA LUMPUR: Mildef International Technologies Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian company providing automotive services to the defence industry in the country, has developed a four-wheel-drive (4x4) high mobility armoured vehicle.

The company said the development of the vehicle, referred to as Mildef HMAV 4x4, was a move to reduce the country’s over-reliance on international suppliers for after-sale support within the army.

Chief executive officer Datuk Seri Mohd Nizam Kasa said the company had been assisted by local defence agency Science and Technology Research Institute for Defence (Stride) and the armed forces to help validate the vehicle's design and development according to the military standard application.

Besides supplying to the Malaysian market, Mildef plans to penetrate the Asean market before exploring opportunities to export the vehicle to other regions.

According to the company, its armoured vehicle is based on a modular platform that can be customised according to the specifications of each country.

The company has contracted US machinery and equipment manufacturer, Caterpillar, to provide the engine, which it described as “the most robust, technologically advanced and ruggedised earthmoving engine available in the market.”

Equipped with modern artillery, grenade and mine blast functions, the weapon platform for Mildef HMAV 4x4 uses remote control weapon station which enables the vehicle to fire at targets 360 degrees while moving.
