BARCELONA: Mitsubishi is set to expand its range of SUVs and close the gap between its ASX and Outlander models with the release of the new Eclipse Cross in January 2018.

With sporty contours resembling a coupe, the four-door Eclipse will seek to make headway in a segment that includes so-called lifestyle SUV models such as the Nissan Juke, Range Rover Evoque and BMW X2. The Eclipse Cross will cost at least US$25,800 (RM107,000) .

The 4.41-metre-long four-door will feature a newly developed 1.5-litre petrol engine with 163hp, as well as a choice of front-wheel drive with manual or continuously variable transmission (CVT), or four-wheel drive with CVT.

The Eclipse Cross can reach speeds of up to 205kph, while Mitsubishi has listed its fuel consumption values at between 6.6 and 7.0 litres per 100 km.

For next year, the Japanese carmaker has already announced the release of a 2.2-litre diesel-engine variant, as well as optional eight-speed automatic transmission.
