SAN DIEGO: Mitsubishi will auction off the first Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Final Edition in aid of the US National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The Lancer Evolution, is in its 10th and final year, and only 1,600 Final Edition models will be produced for the United States, each carrying a unique numbered plaque.

To make the vehicle available to collectors across the country and raise as much money possible, the auction went live 10 days in advance on Nov 11 on eBay. Bidding will conclude Nov 21 at the MS Dinner Auction at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort in Coronado here.

The Lancer Evolution is revered by "gear heads" around the world and is arguably the originator of the four-door sports car genre. The Final Edition model features a 5-speed transmission paired with a turbocharged and intercooled DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder 2.0L engine, making the Final Edition the most powerful mass-produced Evolution ever built with 303hp.

The car is based off the current GSR model and features lightweight two-piece Brembo brake rotors up front, accompanied by Bilstein shock absorbers and Eibach springs at all four corners and Mitsubishi's Super All-Wheel Control system.

"Mitsubishi Motors has been involved with the National MS Society for more than 16 years, raising money through a variety of activities and event sponsorships," said Don Swearingen, executive vice president, Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc.

"It was only fitting that this year, to enhance our title sponsorship of the event, we donate something that means so much to the brand. By expanding the auction nationally, we hope to increase our donation to a charity that is near and dear to the hearts of everyone at Mitsubishi."
