Mitsubishi Xpander remains Malaysia’s most popular non-national MPV

KUALA LUMPUR: The Mitsubishi Xpander remains Malaysia’s most popular non-national MPV (multi-pupose vehicle) with a sales growth of 52.2% from April 2022 to March 2023.

For the 12 months ended March 31, 2023 (financial year 2022 or FY22), Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) sold 13,794 units of Xpander, which was 57% of the company’s total vehicle sales.

In FY22, MMM saw its vehicles sales rose 27% to a record high of 24,315 units, since the company's inception in 2005, with a market share of 3.2%, and thus, retained its top three spot in the non-national automotive sales table.

The Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck saw a sales growth of 12%, with 10,520 units sold in FY22 and the pick-up maintained a market share of 18%.

The Triton is also a strong number two in the pick-up truck segment.

“The Triton and Xpander have been a catalyst for our sales growth in FY22. In ending a successful financial year, we will continue to focus on improving customer purchase and service experience to meet the evolving needs of our customers, assuring a seamless experience,” said Shinya Ikeda, CEO of MMM.

He added, “On the global front, Mitsubishi Motors Corp (MMC) recently premiered the Mitsubishi XRT, the concept car of the all-new Triton at the 44th Bangkok International Motor Show 2023. For the upcoming Asia Cross Country Rally 2023, Team Mitsubishi Ralliart plans to compete with a prototype cross-country model of the all-new Triton in its quest for a second straight victory. Our participation in rallies will be reflected not only in new Triton models but also across a broad range of Mitsubishi vehicles. We are optimistic about the future of the Mitsubishi Motors brand and its presence in Malaysia.”
