Modenas takes over as Kawasaki distributor
By CARSIFU | 01 October 2021
PETALING JAYA: Modenas is the new distributor for Kawasaki motorcycles with effect from Oct 1.
The bikes will be sold through Edaran Modenas, the local motorcycle manufacturer's distribution company.
Edaran Modenas will also be responsible for Kawasaki spare parts and accessories, aftersales and customer servicing.
News of Modenas as the new distributor came less than 24 hours after Kawasaki Malaysia Motors ceased its motorcycle operations on Thursday.
The transfer of rights came about following Kawasaki Heavy Industries of Japan raising its stakes in Modenas in April 2019 from 19% to 30%, leading to a change in its product distribution strategy for Malaysia.
Following the loss of the distributorship after 33 years, Kawasaki Malaysia Motors will be renamed KMSB Motors. It said in a statement that it would seek out new businesses that "would allow us to diversify and expand."
