More thrills from SKILLDRVN Swift one-make race series this season

KUALA LUMPUR: SKILLDRVN Swift one-make race series is getting more exciting this season with four more racers and two more rounds added, bringing the total number of standard-production Suzuki Swift racecars to 16.

Announcing details of the second season on Sunday, organiser Kegani Racing Academy said all races would be held at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit with Round 1 on March 3, Round 2 (June 2), Round 3 (July 21), Round 4 (Sept 1), Round 5 (Oct 6) and Round 6 (Nov 10).

Meanwhile, a new One Make Race Lite will soon be introduced to help reduce the cost of racing further by limiting the list of modifications to just suspension, wheels and tyres.

Also, a new Ladies Class has been introduced to help entice the participation of more female racers.

In addition, the race series also welcomed its new sponsors including Advanti (alloy wheels), Profimax (intake cleaning products) and ZX1 (a micro oil treatment product).

All cars for the SKILLDRVN One Make Race Series come race-ready and are powered by a production and sealed 1.6-litre engine with a Series-spec remap and a standard ratio five-speed manual transmission.

Participants also have the option of buying the race car outright or renting it in a special "arrive and drive" programme and each race costs as low as RM4,000 per round.

Self-employed Vox Lim Keng June, 34, was also announced as the winner of the one-make series' inaugural season held last year along with Alex Seow Chee Fong, 42, and IT specialist Andy Boey Kai Jin as first and second runners-up respectively.

“It is all about making racing affordable and available to the masses, and challenging conventional beliefs and perceptions to make it more inclusive for everyone," said Kegani Racing Academy principal and founder Kenny Lee.

Lee added that by enhancing affordability, the race series seeks to attract a broader audience and, in turn, cultivate and nurture young talents who dream of making it big in the world of motorsports.

Each racecar comes equipped with an FIA-approved racing seat and safety harness, 12-point roll cage and series-spec equipment including coil-over suspension and lower arm, Bendix brake pads and steel braided brake lines as well as a 4-1 exhaust system and alloy wheels.

FMP Automotive Sdn Bhd, the official representative of Bendix in Malaysia, announced the brand’s continued sponsorship of the race series and has appointed Lee as its local brand ambassador.

“Our involvement extends beyond the use of Bendix products in the form of brake pads in the one-make race series but more importantly it provides racers with products that are of exceptional quality and will assure them of the performance they require to withstand extremely hard braking conditions,” said FMP Automotive regional sales and marketing manager Seow Kok Loi.
