Most expensive Volkswagen Golf model ever sells out in 8 minutes

BERLIN: Despite its eye-watering price tag, all 333 of the latest Volkswagen Golf R limited edition were sold out just eight minutes after the company started taking orders.

Each of the 333 yellow Golf Rs retails for €76,410 (RM391,000), which also makes it the most expensive production Golf ever made.

The strong demand for the Golf R 333 Special Edition appears to have surprised even Volkswagen at a time when the end of the combustion engines in new cars is growing closer.

"Okay, that was fast - even for a Golf R," head of product communications chief Stefan Voswinkel said on social media network LinkedIn.


The latest hot hatch Golf was offered in the German market only and some experts see it is an instant collectable and likely to change hands in future at a higher price

The standard Golf R is no slouch, but the 333 edition gets an engine tweak which ups the power to 329 horses from the standard two-litre turbocharged engine.

Acceleration from 0 to 100kph is 4.6 seconds. Power to all four wheels is through a seven-speed semi-automatic gearbox. The car is finished in Lime Yellow metallic paint, topped by a black roof and fitted with fancy 19-inch black alloy wheels.

Customers eager to try out their new toy will have to wait until October to take delivery of their cars, says VW.
