MyCar wants easier roadtax renewal for ride-hailing drivers

PETALING JAYA: Ride-hailing operator MyCar has urged authorities to make it easier for ride-hailing drivers to renew their roadtax and not link the process to the vehicle's ride-hailing status.

MyCar founder and director Mohd Noah Maideen said it has received many complaints from drivers who could not renew their roadtax because they did not have the Electronic Vehicle Permit(EVP).

"This situation has caused dissatisfaction among drivers who have to cancel their EVP and change the status of their vehicles from E-hailing (ride-hailing) to personal vehicle before they are allowed to renew roadtax.

"This situation is further made worse if E-hailing operators such as MyCar fo not purchase enough EVPs.

"Operators have to reduce the acquisitions of EVPs due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic which has caused a 85% decrease in bookings for almost six months," he said in a statement today.

He urged agencies such as the Land Public Transport Agency, Sabah and Sarawak Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board to loosen procedures for cancellation of EVP.

"We also hope that the Road Transport Department will not connect the renewal of roadtax with the EVP and E-hailing vehicle status.

"MyCar also asks that the Transport Ministry reduces the cost for the EVP by 50% from RM115 to encourage operators to purchase more EVPs and give more opportunity to drivers to acquire the EVPs in order to drive legally," he said.

He also hoped that reseach and implementation be done as fast as possible because these awkward procedures burden drivers to renew their roadtax or even use their vehicles daily for personal use.
