LONDON: Aston Martin has introduced its latest convertible, a high-performance, open-top model that marks the 60th anniversary of the brand’s Volante nameplate.
Developed alongside its coupe counterpart, the new model combines significant engineering updates with heritage-inspired design, positioning it as the fastest and most powerful open-top series production car currently on sale.
Powered by a new 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine, the car delivers 824hp and 1,000Nm of torque. It reaches a top speed of 344kph, with power sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. It sprints from 0-100kph in just 3.4 seconds.
A rear-mounted electronic differential can transition from open to fully locked in 135 milliseconds, working in tandem with an updated electronic stability programme to improve handling across a range of driving conditions.
The convertible’s kerb weight has increased by only 95kg compared to the coupe, resulting in a power-to-weight ratio of 416hp per tonne. Engineers developed both body styles concurrently to ensure no compromise in dynamic performance.
The chassis features a bespoke suspension tune and newly introduced Bilstein DTX dampers, allowing greater differentiation between drive modes. These range from a comfort-oriented GT mode to more focused Sport and Sport+ settings that offer progressively sharper responses and tighter body control.
Standard equipment in the Vanquish Volante includes carbon ceramic brakes, which are 27kg lighter than conventional iron discs and provide enhanced resistance to fade.
Tyres were developed in collaboration with Pirelli, with bespoke P Zero compounds designed specifically for the model’s performance characteristics. Both summer and winter tyre options are available.
Design-wise, the convertible retains the broad stance and flowing lines of the coupe. The bonnet features Formula 1-inspired thermos louvres, while the 80mm longer wheelbase accentuates its front-engine, cab-rearward proportions.
The retractable K-fold fabric roof opens in 14 seconds and closes in 16 seconds, operable at speeds up to 50kph and remotely via the key fob. When lowered, the roof stows compactly under the rear tonneau without interrupting the vehicle’s profile.
Matrix LED headlights introduce a new lighting signature, and the front bumper, grille, and fenders have been redesigned to increase airflow and enhance cooling.
Frameless side mirrors and flush-fitting door handles contribute to a clean, aerodynamic side profile. A stainless steel exhaust system with quad tailpipes is fitted as standard, while an optional titanium system provides reduced weight and a more pronounced engine note.
The interior of the Vanquish Volante is configured as a strict two-seater and mirrors the layout introduced in the coupe.
A 10.25-inch digital driver display and a touchscreen infotainment system with online connectivity form the core of the interface.
Physical controls remain for key functions, including a rotary drive mode selector and dedicated buttons for chassis, exhaust, and stability settings. A 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system is fitted as standard.
Seating options include standard Sports Plus seats or optional carbon fibre Performance seats, both designed to accommodate a wide range of driver sizes.
The rear compartment includes storage space crafted to house custom-made leather luggage sets. A wide range of personalisation options is available through the Q by Aston Martin service.
Deliveries of the Vanquish Volante are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025, with availability limited.
