New Lamborghini V12 engine to be part of electric hybrid system that slots into new model

PETALING JAYA: The next V12 engine from Lamborghini will be part of an electric hybrid system in the Aventador replacement model.

The all-new engine will remain naturally aspirated (NA). “The technology is different, it's a completely new engine, a completely new drivetrain, a new battery, everything is completely new. There's nothing out of the Sián or out of the Aventador," Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said in an interview with Autoblog.

The Aventador had a good run of 10 years and Lamborghini has decided to ease it out of the product line with an even more powerful model that has yet to be named. The Aventador's L539 V12 engine is only the second all-new V12 that was purpose-built for the flagship supercar.

All V12 Lambos before the Aventador used an evolution of the Bizzarini V12 engine, named after designer Giotto Bizzarini. The V12 engine of that era started out with a 3.5-litre displacement and expanded to a 6.5-litre V12 during the Murcielago LP 640 time.

The Aventador Ultimae launched earlier this month is a farewell edition and marks the end of the Aventador pedigree. The Ultimae's 6.5-litre V12 makes 770hp and 722Nm of torque and can rev up to 8,500rpm.
