New VW Tiguan makes global debut

WOLFSBURG: Volkswagen unveiled the third generation Tiguan on Tuesday.

The compact SUV has been chosen by over 7.6 million buyers since its debut in 2007. The new model will reach dealerships as early as the first quarter of 2024. The latest technological developments with the MQB evo form the highly innovative technical basis of the new Tiguan.

The new technological developments include hybrid drives with an all-electric range of around 100 km, faster AC charging in all eHybrid versions, and fast DC charging as standard for the first time.

A cleanly designed Digital Cockpit based on the MIB4 fourth-generation modular infotainment matrix offers the highest level of information and brings digital services and apps on board.

The interior of the Tiguan features a completely new concept and design, promising high standards of material and workmanship.

The modules include the new Digital Cockpit, an infotainment screen measuring up to 38cm (15 inches), a new head-up display (projections on to the windscreen), and a new multifunction driving experience switch with integrated OLED display. The new IDA voice assistant allows for easy adjustment of vehicle and infotainment functions using natural language.

The Tiguan offers various drive types, such as turbo diesel engines (TDI), turbo gasoline engines (TSI), mild hybrid turbo gasoline engines (eTSI), and plug-in hybrid systems (eHybrid). The gear position will be changed in future by means of a steering column switch on the right of the steering wheel with a self-explanatory operating principle.

Electronically controlled running gear for added convenience and dynamics is provided by the MQB evo. The adaptive chassis control DCC is revamped with the optional DCC Pro that comes with two-valve shock absorbers and the Vehicle Dynamics Manager, an MQB system that made its debut in the current Golf GTI.

The Tiguan is the first MQB model to be launched with the newly developed IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights. The interactive lighting system was also developed in parallel for the Touareg – both SUVs therefore share the same basic design of the headlights.

The HD headlights have 38,400 multipixel LEDs (19,200 multipixel LEDs per headlight) providing improved comfort and safety.

It also comes with new ergoActive Plus seats with pneumatic four-way lumbar adjustment and pneumatic 10-chamber pressure massage function. In addition, there is a programming function for automatic activation of the seat heating or seat ventilation at certain outside temperatures.

The Tiguan is equipped with a large number of convenience and assist systems as standard, including Side Assist, Front Assist, Lane Assist, Rear View, Dynamic Road Sign Display, and Park Assist Pro with remote parking capability.
