SUNGAI PETANI: Security guard A. Arumugam, 58, was reading the newspaper while on duty outside a Nissan car showroom in Amanjaya Business Centre here when four robbers rushed into the place at 4.40am yesterday. Two of them were armed with knives while the third culprit had a metal rod.

“One of them held me at knifepoint and warned me not to make any noise before tying up my hands and legs. I was also gagged with a piece of cloth. I was dragged into the parking lot in front of the showroom,” he said yesterday.

Nissan - Sg Petani - 02Arumugam said he could not see what they were doing until he heard glass shattering and the alarm wailing.

The stolen cars comprised a Nissan Sylphy, a Nissan Almera and a used Proton Persona.

Arumugam said one of the men tried to drive away a Nissan Navara but couldn’t.

“He broke the window. But he could not start it because of the sophisticated security system.”

Arumugam managed to free himself after the robbers fled and phoned the manager. He believed that the robbers, who were in their 20s, came in a car.

Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Md Zukir Md Isa said the showroom manager was alerted of the robbery through his handphone app which is connected to the outlet’s security system.

“He said three cars and 24 sets of duplicated car keys were missing. The losses are estimated to be at about RM229,000,” he said.
