Nissan Serena e-Power launched from RM155,000

PETALING JAYA: Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM), the official importer of Nissan in Malaysia, has finally launched the all-new Nissan Serena multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

The new Serena is made available in five variants starting with the entry-level X that costs on-the-road without insurance at RM154,800.

This is followed by the X Plus that's been similarly priced at RM159,800, the Highway Star (RM169,800), Premium Highway Star (RM174,800) and the range-topping Shiro Premium Highway Star (RM179,800).

For colour options, the X and X Plus are limited to Brilliant White or Diamond Black.

The Highway Star can be had in Turquoise Blue, Brilliant White, Dark Metal Gray and Diamond Black.

Meanwhile, the Premium Highway Star and Shiro Premium Highway Star can be opted in Diamond Black, but other than this colour, it will come in a two-tone setup that consists of Turquoise Blue with Black Roof, Brilliant White with Black Roof and Dark Metal Gray with Black roof.

ETCM provides the Serena with a standard five-year or 100,000km warranty for the vehicle while the e-Power components get an eight-year or 160,000km coverage.

The seven-seater Serena uses a 1,433cc HR14DDe direct injected engine to power up its e-Power system that provides 163PS (120kW) and 315Nm of torque to the front wheels.

Electrical charge is stored within a 1.77kWh lithium-ion battery pack while fuel goes into a 52-litre fuel tank.

Fuel efficiency is a claimed 18.5km per litre (NEDC) while rolling on 16-inch alloys fitted with 205/65 series tyres.

With its front MacPherson struts and rear torsion beam setup to prop up its 1,784kg (kerb) heft, while ride-height has been set to 125mm.

Forward illumination is handled by tri-eye LED projector headlights with auto-levelling, signature illumination and welcome function.

Also, LEDs are used for the daytime runners, rear light clusters, rear fogs, and external power-folding mirrors with integrated turn signals.

Meanwhile, visual identification for the X and X Plus is its V-Motion Grille while the rest adds on a sportier front bumper.

Standard fitment for the X includes e-Pedal Step for that one-pedal driving experience, power sliding door, dual back-door, dual-zone climate controls, black water-repellant fabric seats.

There's also a 9.0-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear camera, and 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster.

Three driving modes of Standard, Eco and Sport are available as well as an electronic parking brake with auto hold, walk away auto lock function, approach auto unlock.

For safety, the Serena comes equipped with six airbags, intelligent forward collision warning with braking, blind spot warning, lane departure warning and rear cross traffic alert.

There's also the usual hill-starts assist, high beam assist, vehicle dynamic control with traction control, anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, and brake assist.

It continues with emergency stop signal, electric vehicle sound for pedestrian and speed sensing auto door lock.

Moving up to the X Plus, Leatherette upholstery replaces the black fabric, before adding on V-Kool security tint and an in-cabin 14-inch roof-mounted monitor.

The Highway Star adds on an aerodynamic front and rear bumper that extends its overall length from 4,690mm to 4,765mm.

Its overall width is also increased from 1,695mm to 1,715mm as well as its kerb weight that's now 1,799kg.

Overall height is still maintained at 1,885mm.

Owners will appreciate the inclusion of an additional power-sliding door (now two), second-row tray tables, acoustic front windscreen, a larger 12.4-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a larger 12.3-inch instrument cluster.

Additionally, there are now a wireless charger, six USB ports, a 360-degree camera view with moving object detection, and ProPilot which throws in adaptive cruise control, intelligent lane intervention and intelligent blind spot intervention.

The Premium Highway Star will upgrade the upholstery to Black Quilted Nappa, and up-size the ceiling-mounted monitor to a larger 14-inches while sporting a black roof, unless Diamond Black has been opted as the preferred colour option.

Lastly, the Shiro Premium Highway Star will now sport white quilted Nappa Leather seats instead, along with LED-illuminated kick-plates, a powered tailgate, and a motorised 14-inch roof mounted monitor.

The sixth-generation all-new Nissan Serena e-Power with its all-electric motor-driven e-Power technology introduces a new dimension to an MPV.

"We are confident that it will once again lead this segment with its dynamic performance and advanced safety features," said ETCM executive vice president Christopher Tan.
