PETALING JAYA: As rumours go, this one is true.

The Nissan Z Proto will use the engine from Infiniti's flagship Q60 coupe. The 3.0-litre twin turbo VR30DDTT V6 mill seen in Infiniti 400 Red Sport performance series makes 400hp and 475Nm of torque.

Nissan has so far revealed exterior and interior shots of the car except for what's under the bonnet. But now, the cat's out of the bag, so to speak.

An Instagram user @layersworks managed to sneak some photos of the innards of the Z Proto that was being readied for display at a Tokyo dealership.

Other than a distinctive engine cover, the Z Proto powerplant looks identical to the one in the Q60.

Key identifiers are three coolant caps at the front of the engine bay. With two staggered ones on the left and one on the right, they're located as they would be in the Q60.

Moreover, the coolant hoses are laid out in the same way as the one in the Infiniti.

To whet the appetitie even more, a NIsmo version is rumoured to be in the works.

The production Z car is expected to be launched later this year.
