KUALA LUMPUR: There is no congestion at all exits from the federal capital to the north, east and south of the peninsula via the North-South Expressway (PLUS), Karak Highway and East Coast Expressway in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration tomorrow.
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Azisman Alias said traffic was smooth at 7.30pm today and the number of vehicles was low despite the Deepavali holiday Saturday.
"Traffic from 5pm to 7.30pm was normal even when people started to leave the office and the rush hour was as usual," he said.
He believed the public was complying with the government’s directive to bar inter-district and inter-state movement for places under the conditional MCO and enhanced MCO.
Azisman said inter-state travel was only allowed for those in the essential services and others who had obtained permission from the police.
However, he said traffic monitoring would be conducted by police from time to time.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Malaysian Highway Authority said both stretches of the East Coast Expressway were showing smooth traffic.
As of 7.30pm today, traffic was only slow at some toll plazas due to rain and roadblocks mounted by security forces.
"Traffic was slow from Subang Jaya to the Puchong Barat toll plaza, the entry and exit points at the KL International Airport toll plaza and Sungai Besi toll plaza to the city centre," he said.
A spokesman for PLUS Malaysia Bhd said traffic to the north and south was smooth.
