No VEP enforcement without announcement first, says Loke

JOHOR BARU: Enforcement of the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) for Singapore-registered vehicles will not start without an announcement first from the government, says Anthony Loke.

The Transport Minister said the government would fix a date for the enforcement soon and announce it before it is implemented.

“The VEP system was started last year but in terms of enforcement, we are (still) using a soft approach by giving reminders and notices.

“We will not begin enforcement without notifying,” he said in a press conference after witnessing the signing of the Bukit Chagar integrated mix-use development, jointly developed by MRT Corporation and Sunway Group, here on Thursday (Feb 13).

The VEP scheme for foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia from Singapore by land started on Oct 1 last year.

All such vehicles must have installed and activated a VEP radio frequency identification tag that is linked to a Touch ‘n Go e-wallet account.

Those without a tag can still enter Malaysia but will receive a reminder.
