Omoda C9 premium SUV coupe previewed with December launch from RM185,000
By JAY WONG | 24 September 2024PETALING JAYA: Premium sports utility vehicle (SUV) brand, Jaecoo Malaysia, has unveiled its latest offering – the Omoda C9.
Unveiled at a media preview in Sunway Damansara here today, the upmarket SUV coupe will be made available in the two-wheel-drive (2WD) powertrain and all-wheel-drive (AWD) version.
The 2WD variant is expected to be priced on-the-road around RM185,000 and the AWD around RM195,000.
Due for launch in December, the C9 will be assembled in Shah Alam.
The vehicle features a distinct diamond matrix air intake grille and daytime running lights emulating the sigma design.
In addition to its intelligent adaptive control LED headlights, the model also gets an acoustic windshield for reduced noise intrusion into the cabin.
Also included are a keyless door entry with Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, a walkaway locking system and flush door handles.
The C9 has a wheelbase of 2,800mm, length of 4,775mm, width of 1,920mm and height of 1,671mm.
These give the C9 a 660-litre boot that's expandable to 1,783 litres.
Additionally, it also has a ground clearance of 165mm, a maximum wading depth of 450mm and uses 20-inch multi-blade alloy wheels with 245/50 series tyres.
Its sophisticated adaptive Continuous Damping Control (CDC) suspension is paired with front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link setup.
Under the hood is a 2.0-litre TGDI (Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection) inline four-cylinder petrol engine producing 257hp with 400Nm of torque.
Power is managed by an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 2WD version will have three drive modes whereas the AWD variant will feature seven to include off-road settings.
Inside, the cabin gets leather upholstery, active rhythmic ambient lighting, a 50W wireless charger and automatic three-zone climate controls with fragrance and air quality system.
There's also a 24.6-inch single-panel high-definition display, cooler box, paddle shifters, heads-up display, a 540-degree around view monitor and a built-in digital video recorder (DVR).
The front seats come with ventilation and the driver’s seat is eight-way adjustable with three memory positions
For entertainment, the 2WD variant gets an eight-speaker system while the the AWD has a 14-speaker surround sound system with driver's headrest speakers.
On the safety side, the C9 is equipped as standard with eight airbags and a level 2.5 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) which includes Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Driver Monitoring System (DMS), Door Opening Warning (DOW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Lane Change Assist (LCA) and Emergency Lane Keep Assist (ELKA).
"The C9 carries all the traits of the Jaecoo DNA that redefines attainable luxury and refined urban appeal,“ said Chery Corporate Malaysia executive vice-president Leo Chen.
The model has been placed under the Jaecoo brand in Malaysia since it falls under the premium SUV category.
"The C9 complements our growing portfolio of SUVs and we are excited to introduce it to the market at a competitive price point set below RM200,000," said Jaecoo Malaysia vice-president Emily Lek.
Lek added that the public would have the chance to experience it during their upcoming roadshows scheduled for the end of October.
