One in 10 motorcyclists riding around without licences, says Johor JPJ

JOHOR BARU: A three-week special operation on motorcyclists in Johor has found that one out of ten motorcyclists inspected are riding without licences.

Johor Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Azmil Zainal Adnan said the operation carried out from Nov 1 to 26 found that in general, motorcyclists' compliance with road rules was low.

"Through the special operation, JPJ inspected a total of 28,158 motorcycles and issued 15,908 notices for various offences," he said here today.

He added that 572 motorcycles were seized because they were found to be unroadworthy and unsafe.

"Data collected during the special operation showed low compliance with traffic rules.

"There were 3,428 cases of not having a competent driving licence, 2,255 cases of not having insurance coverage and 2,344 cases of not having valid motor vehicle licences (road tax)," said Azmil Zainal.

"This special operation focused on detecting and assessing compliance with safety conditions and regulations and that vehicles are driven safely based on the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333).

"Enforcement with strict action will be carried out at all times to create a safe road safety culture ecosystem for all road users," he said.
