Only one theory test for motorcycle, driving licence from Sept 15

PUTRAJAYA: People will only need to sit for one theory test to obtain a motorcycle and driving licence under a new ruling to be enforced starting Sept 15, says Anthony Loke.

The Transport Minister said that under the new ruling, a person need not sit for a theory test to get a driving licence if they sat for the test earlier to obtain a motorcycle licence and vice-versa.

Loke said the decision was made following feedback and requests from the public.

He added that this procedure was actually in place many years back but was changed to the current one before the most recent decision to revert to the old policy.

“While we will be exempting the applicant from having to take two theory tests, they will have to undergo circuit and on-the-road tests for motorcycles and cars separately,” he told a press conference today.

This means that those who have a motorcycle licence will no longer be required to go for a theory test but will still have to undertake a circuit and road examination to obtain a driving licence.

Loke said the curriculum to be taught in driving classes would be merged and applicants would learn the theoretical elements for motorcycle and car handling simultaneously.

“We believe this new ruling will bring benefit to the public as they no longer need to sit for another round of six-hour class just to obtain another licence.

“We also expect the public to enjoy a saving of RM100 from this ruling,” he added.
