Over 9,000 summonses issued in first three days of KL traffic op

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 9,247 traffic summonses were issued in the first three days of the Respect Traffic Laws operation (Hormat Undang-Undang Jalanraya, or Ops HUU) at several locations here.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said the operation started on Tuesday (June 4) and will continue until June 15.
"For the first three days (until Thursday, June 6), we issued 9,247 summonses for various traffic offences," he said in a statement today.
The most common offences were traffic obstruction or illegal parking (7,123 summonses issued), stopping at a pedestrian walkway (699), not having a licence (236), expired road tax (155), illegal number plates (101), and stopping in the yellow box (20).
Other offences included not having vehicle insurance (three), not wearing helmets (39), vehicles without number plates (16), vehicles without side mirrors (81), using mobile phones while driving (63), not displaying the "P" sticker (42), expired licences (31), malfunctioning brake light (one) and illegal modifications (eight).
ACP Sarifudin said the operation involved 111 senior officers from the department and 1,401 personnel.
"We are also assisted by other enforcement personnel from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
"So far, we detained 24 individuals and seized a motorcycle and lorry," he said.
