Sarawak side of Pan Borneo Highway project 70% complete

SIBU: The Pan Borneo Highway project in Sarawak is now 69.60 per cent complete, says Senior Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He said based on the contract, the completion date was set as September 2022. Due to various constraints including the movement control order, delays were inevitable, he said.

"We had several limitations such as supply chain problems and rising costs of building materials as well as manpower shortage caused by the standard operating procedures compliance.

"In addition there were challenges in complying with the different SOPs specially set for each division in Sarawak which has made it difficult to complete the project on time," he said in a statement today.

The highway project extends into Sabah, whose progress has been much slower than Sarawak's. In Decmber last year, it was reported that the Sabah stretch was only 20 per cent completed. At the time, the Sarawak side had already reached 65 per cent completion.
