Perodua in tie-up to promote tourism
By THE STAR | 29 November 2023KUALA LUMPUR: Tourism Malaysia is teaming up with Perodua to address the gap in its end-to-end services by offering comprehensive packages that include car transportation, benefitting both domestic and international travellers.
Both parties have signed a three-year memorandum of collaboration (MoC) from 2024 to 2026, with the aim of jointly promoting tourism in Malaysia.
This collaboration seeks to facilitate accessibility and enhance the overall tourist experience. At present, specific details about the packages have not been disclosed and Perodua has yet to determine the number of cars that will be made available for sharing.
Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board director-general Datuk Ammar Abd Ghapar expressed his hope that there will be packages where tourists can experience the driving experience of a Perodua vehicle.
“By combining the strengths and resources of Perodua and Tourism Malaysia, we are not only aiming to increase the number of tourists but also their overall satisfaction,” he said at the MoC signing ceremony yesterday.
He believes that the responsibility of boosting the tourism industry in Malaysia rests not solely on Tourism Malaysia, but on the nation as a whole.
Ammar applauded the partnership between the two parties and called for further collaborations.
Meanwhile, Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad believes this partnership aligns with the company’s “mobility as a lifestyle” initiative, shifting away from mere mobility for a service. He believes through this collaboration, tourists can experience the essence of Perodua and appreciate its distinctiveness.
With this, he believes the company has a chance to venture into other countries worldwide as part of its long-term vision for overseas expansion, a strategic move to extend its reach beyond national borders.
“As a national brand, we would want to spread our wings,” he said.Zainal explained that through this MoC, Perodua would be able to expand its new business model, specifically vehicle subscription, while at the same time get feedback from foreign travellers on their opinion of Perodua.
The MoC seeks to achieve several critical objectives that are sure to benefit the country’s tourism industry and the economy.
Perodua will play a pivotal role in improving accessibility for domestic and international tourists, enhancing road trips and scenic drives to encourage visitors to explore more of the country at their own pace.
Both parties are also committed to sustainable tourism practices, actively promoting eco-friendly travel options and simultaneously reducing the environmental impact of tourism.
