PARIS: Peugeot's answer to cars like the Ford Focus, Hyundai i30, Opel Astra and VW Golf is the 308, and in the second half of 2021 the French manufacturer is launching a new generation it says brings more space, more smarts and more efficient engines.

The compact five-door car is being built on a new platform to enable a significantly larger size, and the length will increase by 11cm to 4.36 metres and the wheelbase by 5cm to 2.68 metres.

For a sportier appearance, however, the car will be 2cm flatter, while also adding a more distinctive grille and wider sides. Peugeot it will still offer more space for passengers, as well as a larger luggage compartment of now 412 litres.

On the inside, Peugeot promises a more developed cockpit with digital displays and a 3D effect, a larger touchscreen and less buttons. The assistance systems are also smarter.

Among other features, the 308 will be able to tell you the optimal speed for your route and can even help you when overtaking.

Unlike the smaller 208, the 308 is not purely electric. However, Peugeot offers two plug-in hybrids with 180 or 225hp and electric ranges of up to 60km.

Those who opt for fuel instead of electricity get a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with 110 or 130hp. In addition, a four-cylinder diesel with 1.5 litres produces 130hp. This means CO2 values of 117 g/km at best.
