PHEV e.MAS 7 goes on display at Proton Tech Showcase

SUBANG JAYA: Malaysians interested to know what Proton has in store for 2026 and beyond will want to head to the Centre of Excellence (COE) facility from today until Dec 7, Sunday.

Gathering the company's most significant engineering achievements under one roof, the Proton Tech Showcase will give visitors the opportunity to gain insights on the technology powering Proton’s newest models.

The event will highlight a blend of advanced electric vehicle (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) technologies alongside a full line-up of the latest Proton models - accompanied by a series of presentations and discussions related to current and future automotive trends and technologies.

These includes new models such as the 2025 X50, e.MAS 5, the all-new Saga, and the upcoming plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) e.MAS 7 which is slated to be launched in early 2026.

Not much has been revealed about the hybrid model other than it may adopt Geely's advanced 11-in-1 intelligent hybrid electric drive system.

The system, also known as the EM-i Super Hybrid, is said to deliver 160kW in power, 262Nm torque and a comprehensive efficiency of 92.8%.

Applying these figures, the PHEV e.MAS 7 should have a 0-100kph acceleration of 8 seconds, a total driving range of 1065km, and a 30%-80% recharge time of 16 minutes.

According to the presentation the system offers a seamless, indifferent driving experience regardless if the battery is fully charged or depleted.

Other big takeaways at the event are the new engine's transmission, the GMA platform, the Short Blade Battery, and connectivity exhibits by ACO Tech featuring AR and AI capabilities.

“Proton is moving into a new phase where technology and innovation will define our products and company direction. The progress showcased at the event is the result of close collaboration with Geely, supported by the hard work of our engineering teams," said Proton chief executive officer Dr Li Chunrong.

"Our hope is for Malaysians to understand our technology and where the brand is heading, and we are proud to demonstrate the progress we have made,” he added.

While the items displayed are the focus of the showcase, visitors will also gain valuable insights through a series of presentations from Proton, Geely, vendors and external parties.

Visitors will also be given the opportunity to participate in panel discussions sessions by asking on the spot questions to the hosts.

Additionally, the three-day programme also offers a range of family friendly activities and the opportunity to go for a taxi ride on Proton’s semi high-speed test track.

Aside from the semi high-speed oval, visitors can also take part in a test drive session featuring Proton’s latest models including the newly debuted Saga.
