STUTTGART: The tuners at Piecha Design near here have taken the Mercedes-AMG GT S and made it even more impressive. How's 612hp and 330kph for starters?

The Piecha AMG GT-RSR is even more powerful than the AMG GT-R, which delivers 585hp, 700Nm and a top speed of 318kph.

The increased output was made possible through the use of the Piecha performance module, developed with PERFORMMASTER, that allowed the AMG mill to hit 612hp and 840Nm. “Going from naught to 100kph only takes 3.7 seconds and presses you into your seat. The soundtrack is provided by the exhaust system with its four hard-chrome-plated double-wall 90mm tailpipes as thick as an arm. Piecha dumped the fashionable trapezoid shape for a sporty look.

Carbon fibre composite materials are used extensively. The production front apron got “Air-Wings“ made of carbon and lets the air chutes appear wider. The downforce “Front-Cup-Wings“ with their slanted fins pointing upwards and the central support also stand for both visual pleasure and pleasurable performance “The sides of this expressive coupé with its long bonnet are exciting and widen towards the rear without this being too playful,“ said founder Marcus Piecha.

With a subdivision with an air chute and sills, this front design has now been transferred to the rear. A highlight, literally, is the underfloor lighting through five perpendicular LED lamps in the side skirts when the car doors are opened or closed.

For the RSR rear apron, Piecha has re-interpreted the Mercedes-AMG GT’s design. The closed underfloor panelling has been replaced by a mighty ultra-light carbon diffusor with an integrated reversing light whose fins reach almost as far as the rear axle and make for a much better downforce handling. The car gets a wide and rigid carbon rear spoiler: the kicker here is that the original retractable braking spoiler stays in place.

The Piecha coilovers also required much technical input in order to keep the complex electronic production shocks fully functional. Even the UHP tyres by Yokohama, the partner that also provides production parts for many Mercedes cars, are a special version of the ADVAN Sport V105.

The Piecha AMG GT-RSR-approved version shows remarkable 275/35 ZR19 up front and 305/30 ZR20 in the rear and are geared to a top speed of 330kph.
