PETALING JAYA: PLUS Malaysia Bhd’s (PLUS) launched its first voluntary Sustainability Report at its virtual townhall recently, which was attended by over 1,700 employees.
“As Malaysia’s largest highway operator, we are conscious of the role we play as well as our responsibilities towards the environment and society.
"We have implemented initiatives to ensure that we provide a safe and comfortable commute, while preserving the environment, being socially responsible and upholding good governance,” said PLUS managing director Datuk Azman Ismail.
“Our report illustrates the measures we undertook to minimize the impacts of climate change to protect the safety of our highway users.
The report highlights that in 2020, 170 processes were digitalised resulting in a reduction in process cycle time as well as saving three million sheets of papers.
Through digitalisation, the company recorded a 25% savings in energy consumption and achieved a significant reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
"The report shares our aspirations in accelerating environmental efforts, including water and waste management,” added PLUS chief operations officer Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi.
The report also stated PLUS conducted 27,000 virtual training hours for over 2,300 employees.
"Through the various movement control orders, PLUS spared no effort to ensure seamless delivery of essential goods and services while in strict adherence to SOPs," said PLUS chief governance and risk officer Satpal Singh, who also oversees sustainability activities at the company.
"We also supported our highway frontliners and local communities through financial assistance and CSR programmes, touching more than 10,000 lives.”
