JOHOR BARU: The infrastructure of the Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link) was 65% ready as of Dec 31, putting the project on track for completion by the end of 2026.
At a ceremony here on Thursday (Jan 11), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Singapore counterpart Lee Hsien Loong witnessed the historic completion of the connecting span for the RTS project.
The span was the meeting point of the project's marine viaduct between Johor Baru and Singapore.
This was the first time the two top leaders had met at the project site.
During the ceremony, Anwar and Lee also signed two plaques stating the commitment of both countries to constructing the RTS Link.
Also present were Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Singapore Acting Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat, as well as Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
The RTS Link project was a commuter train network spanning about 4km with stations at Bukit Chagar here and at Woodlands North, Singapore.
With a capacity of up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction and a journey time of about five minutes between the two stations, the RTS line is aimed at providing an easy and comfortable journey between Singapore and Johor Baru.
