Polestar 4 to debut at Shanghai auto show

GOTHENBURG: Polestar will reveal its next car, Polestar 4, at the Shanghai auto show on April 18.

For the latest addition to its portfolio of cars, Polestar has taken the SUV coupé and transformed it for the electric age. Polestar 4 marries the aerodynamics of a coupé with the space of an SUV in a package enhanced by modern technology.

Design cues and sustainability enhancements initially showcased in Polestar’s concept cars will make their production debut in Polestar 4.

The electric SUV coupé will also be the fastest Polestar production car to date.

Positioned between the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3, the car is expected to be priced from US$60,000 to US$80,000 (RM265,000 to RM354,000).

Autocar had reported that the Polestar 4 is aimed at the upcoming Porsche Macan BEV, and would have a higher ground clearance than the Polestar 2. It would also have a shorter wheelbase than the Polestar 3, hence a smaller cabin volume.

There's every chance Polestar would have a rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions as in the Polestar 2.

If it gets the same motors as the Polestar 2, we will be looking at performance figures that are 299hp/489Nm for RWD variety and 455hp/740Nm for the AWD one. Range of 482km and 434km would be the result of such respective specs.

“Polestar 4 is not simply a modified version of our first SUV. Instead, we reconsidered the entire design to create a new breed of SUV coupé,” said Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath.

Polestar 4 will be joined by Polestar 3 and the recently updated Polestar 2, making their first public appearance in China.
