Police in KLIA 1 to get electric scooters to aid patrols
By THE STAR | 15 April 2024
SEPANG: Police at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 will soon be using electric scooters for more efficient patrols.
"With them, we can respond faster and cover more ground during patrol," said Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan on Monday (April 15).
He added that the use of electric scooters was planned earlier this year and the Selangor government had agreed to purchase them.
He also said police are recommending increased security measures at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 following the recent shooting incident.
"We will suggest tighter (security) measures," he said.
Comm Hussein said that the inner vehicle lanes closest to the arrival and departure hall entrances should be closed off to the public.
"The lanes nearest to the entry point are high-risk. A person can park their vehicle, enter the airport, and throw something inside," he said.
He added that installing scanners at airport entry points are under the jurisdiction of the airport's management.
"This is one aspect the airports are studying with the relevant ministries," he said.
On April 14 morning, a suspect fired shots at the arrival hall of KLIA 1 in an attempt to kill his wife.
The intended target, travel agency owner Farah Md Isa, better known as Farah Cie, was waiting for her clients to return from umrah.
Her husband, whom police have identified as 38-year-old Hafizul Harawi, set off some firecrackers before opening fire at her at close range.
Her bodyguard managed to save her but was shot in the stomach. Hafizul then escaped to his car, parked at Block C of the airport car park.
