BERLIN: Porsche is announcing another new addition to its treasured 911 family and launching its cult sports car as a GTS with a little more power and pizzazz.

Two years after the debut of the 997 generation, a reworked sports version of the 911 is now filling in the gap to the Turbo.

The Porsche 911 GTS is set to be available as a Coupe, Cabrio and Targa with rear- or all-wheel drive, dual clutch and manual transmission, Porsche has announced. A total of five GTS variants will be on offer from November.

Porsche has once again reworked the 3.0 litre boxer engine in the rear and increased the previous output of 450hpto 480hp. At the same time, the maximum torque was increased by 20Nm to 570Nm.

All this also improves the driving performance. Porsche quotes a sprint value of 3.3 seconds from 0 to 100kph and a top speed of up to 309kph.

In addition to the engine, Porsche has also optimised the chassis, adopting numerous components from the 911 Turbo. There are also lighter add-on parts in darker colours, a sportier interior and a new exhaust system with a fuller sound, Porsche says.

In terms of consumption, the GTS guzzles upwards of 10.4 litres (WLTP), depending on the model and drive variant, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of 236 g/km.

Prices in Porsche's home market are around 15 per cent higher than the Carrera S and start at €140,981 (RM692,000), according to Porsche.
