Porsche Malaysia and MAM team up for road safety awareness

KUALA LUMPUR: Porsche Malaysia, represented by Sime Darby Auto Performance (Auto Performance) and Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) have joined forces to drive a nationwide effort, “Students Today. Drivers Tomorrow.”, to educate the drivers of tomorrow about the critical importance of road safety.

The campaign has reached over 1,600 participants between the ages of 7 to 17 years old.

In a statement, the companies said road safety remains a pressing issue in Malaysia, with rising accident rates of over 530,000 attributed to poor habits on the road.

These accidents not only impact the individuals involved but also produce ripple effects on communities.

Auto Performance CEO Christopher Hunter said, “Motorsports is deeply embedded in our DNA, but beyond performance and passion, road safety remains a fundamental aspect of driving. We’re proud to be partnering with MAM to educate the drivers of tomorrow on the importance of road safety.”

“It is crucial that we create awareness among students—our drivers of tomorrow—by equipping them with essential road safety knowledge and responsible driving habits from an early age. More importantly, by taking this knowledge home, they can influence their families to adopt safer driving practices, fostering a more responsible driving culture and contributing to safer roads across Malaysia,” he continued.

MAM president Tan Sri Mokhzani Tun Mahathir shared, “We are excited to join forces with Porsche Malaysia to launch this road safety initiative. Education is the first step towards creating responsible drivers. By teaching students about road safety at an early age, we can instil lifelong habits that will ensure safer roads for everyone. We look forward to seeing how this partnership will not only impact the students but also inspire a broader community movement towards safer driving practices.”

Porsche Malaysia and MAM is embarking on a nationwide roadshow, and visiting selected schools to educate students about road safety and the importance of responsible driving.

The roadshow will feature a road safety talk with motorsports instructors, interactive quizzes that tested students’ knowledge, and the opportunity for students to participate in driving simulations through a simulator.

The driving simulators will allow students to experience what it’s like to be behind the wheel while putting their learnings into action.

This hands-on approach ensures that students not only understand the importance of road safety but also get to practice the behaviours that will make them safer drivers in the future.
