Proton 10,000 sMILEs Expedition in Sabah a success

KOTA KINABALU: Proton's 10,000 sMILEs Expedition in Sabah brought together local culture, community contribution, sustainability efforts and real-world vehicle performance.

Proton said the Sabah leg of the expedition provided a real-world setting to demonstrate how the Saga, X50 and S70 deliver confidence across different driving environments and lifestyles.

The Saga combines practical features such as a spacious 420-litre boot, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, reverse camera and parking sensors with its i-GT 1.5L engine paired to a CVT transmission.

The X50 includes a 360-degree HD Camera with 180-degree Transparent View, Auto Park Assist, 12 parking sensors and voice command.

The X50 is powered by a i-GT 1.5 turbocharged four-cylinder engine, alongside adaptive drive modes and Hill Descent Control.

As the convoy progressed towards Kundasang, uphill gradients and winding roads created the ideal environment to demonstrate real-world performance beyond the city.

The S70 reinforced its “city to cloud” character, powered by an i-GT 1.5 turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a seven-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT), alongside Intelligent Cruise Control and Lane Departure Warning.

Meanwhile, at Fook Loi Corp, one of Proton’s dealership partners in Sabah, the convoy conducted a Fast Service 10-Point service check, demonstrating how quicker and more convenient aftersales support can enhance ownership confidence in vehicle care and maintenance.

Supported by Proton’s network of 12 service outlets across Sabah, customers are supported by Regional Parts Centres (RPC) at Inanam to ensure faster parts availability and smoother aftersales support.

During the stop, expedition participants also experienced first-hand the speed, professionalism and technical confidence of Proton’s service advisors.

Proton also visited Sabah Cheshire Home and Services, contributing essential supplies, food and care items, together with a cash donation of RM10,000 to support the home’s daily operations.

At Kinabalu Park, Proton strengthened its sustainability commitment through a collaboration with Sabah Parks, marking a joint initiative to support environmental protection, biodiversity conservation and sustainability efforts in Sabah.

“This expedition allows Proton to experience Sabah in a more meaningful way — through its people, its communities, its culture and its roads,” said Proton deputy CEO Datuk Abdul Rashid Musa.

“From Kota Kinabalu to Kundasang, we were able to show how our vehicles perform in real conditions while also contributing to Sabah Cheshire Home and strengthening collaboration on sustainability efforts at Kinabalu GeoPark. This is what the 10,000 sMILEs Expedition represents: connecting products with people, and mobility with purpose.”

The Proton 10,000 sMILEs Expedition will continue across Brunei and Sarawak, featuring dealership activations, local culture, community outreach, social media content and real-world product experiences.
