SUBANG JAYA: A Proton compact SUV (sport utility vehicle) is expected to be launched by end-2026, following Feytech Holdings Bhd securing a RM96.83mil seat cover supply contract for the new model, with production scheduled to commence in October 2026.
Feytech Holdings said the group’s leather trim manufacturing arm, Gosford Leather Industries Sdn Bhd has been appointed the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) seat supplier for the new compact SUV built on Proton’s Advanced Modular Architecture (AMA) 02 platform under a letter of acceptance spanning 84 months.
The new A-segment compact crossover will rival the Perodua Ativa and Honda WR-V, and industry sources have widely speculated the model will carry the Saga Cross nameplate.
Last year, Proton revealed the existence of AMA02, AMA05 and AMA06 to replace Persona, Iriz, Exora and the old Saga models targeting the sub-RM80,000 segment.
“This contract is a natural extension of our longstanding relationship with Proton, that goes back to 2012. Feytech has grown alongside the national automotive industry and we are proud to support the national carmaker as it enters this next chapter of its product expansion,” said Feytech CEO Connie Go.
On a separate note, Feytech’s joint venture with China’s Wuhu Ruitai Auto Parts Co Ltd, FTRT Autoparts Sdn Bhd, which currently manufactures seats for Chery Jaecoo J7, Jetour and Omoda 5 is deepening its relationship with the top Chinese passenger cars exporter.
FTRT Autoparts will commence seat production for Chery Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 7 Pro from July 2026 under an existing localisation framework at its dedicated Subang facility.
FTRT was established to support the localisation requirements of China-based OEMs operating under completely-knocked-down frameworks in Malaysia.
Chery, which relaunched in the country in 2023 has since crossed 30,000 cumulative sales.
Go said that both programmes are consistent with the Group’s strategy to strengthen its position as a Tier-1 seat supplier to domestic and regional OEMs, improving capacity utilisation and long-term earnings stability.
Feytech Holdings is a Malaysian-based industrial group with a diversified portfolio of businesses, including automotive seat manufacturing, interior trim and related support services.
The group provides high-quality seat systems and components to a range of domestic and regional OEMs.
