TANJONG MALIM: The Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV (plug-in hybrid) is now locally assembled, with the first units rolling off the production line at the dedicated Proton EV (electric vehicle) plant in the Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV), Tanjong Malim.
The rollout marks another milestone in Pro-Net's localisation programme and its efforts to strengthen Malaysia's capabilities in electric and electrified vehicle manufacturing.
The e.MAS 7 PHEV production line was officiated by Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Deputy Minister Sim Tze Tzin.
They toured the EV plant and witnessed key production processes including battery pack installation and final vehicle assembly, together with Proton chairman Tan Sri Syed Faisal Albar, Proton CEO Dr Li Chunrong and Proton deputy CEO Datuk Ir Abdul Rashid Musa.
The e.MAS 7 PHEV has established itself as Malaysia's best-selling plug-in hybrid, with registrations reaching 4,699 units as of June 2026, giving it a 47% share of the PHEV segment.
Total bookings have exceeded 11,000 units.
With local assembly now underway, Pro-Net said the model will contribute to greater domestic participation across the automotive supply chain.
The CKD (completely knocked down) programme currently sources 30% of the e.MAS 7 PHEV's parts locally, involving suppliers across different areas of the automotive value chain.
Pro-Net said this will help strengthen local manufacturing capabilities, encourage greater supplier participation and create higher-value employment opportunities.
The Proton EV Plant currently employs 391 personnel, with localisation expected to deepen as production expands.
The e.MAS 7 PHEV is now the third model in Pro-Net's portfolio to be assembled locally, joining the e.MAS 7 and e.MAS 5 EVs.
Earlier this year, Proton announced plans to expand its New Energy Vehicle (NEV) assembly plant at AHTV.
The RM37 million expansion is expected to raise annual production capacity to 42,000 units, less than a year after the plant began operations.

The CKD version of the e.MAS 7 PHEV Premium and Premium Plus variants now gain front seats with massage function.
The e.MAS 7 PHEV uses EM-i Advanced Hybrid Technology, combining a petrol engine with an electric motor.
This system delivers a claimed fuel consumption of 4.3 litres per 100km, while its LFP battery provides up to 170km of pure-electric driving range.
The total combined driving range is rated at up to 1,065km.
The e.MAS 7 PHEV also supports DC fast charging and comes with advanced connectivity, premium comfort features and a comprehensive suite of ADAS safety systems.
Key features include a 15.4-inch 2.5K infotainment display with Flyme Auto OS, an integrated live charging map, and up to 2,065 litres of maximum rear luggage capacity.
