Proton electric sub-brand e.MAS expected to deliver 5 models
By CARSIFU | 12 June 2024SHAH ALAM: Proton today announced that its EV (electric vehicle) sub-brand will be known as e.MAS.
It is derived from the aim to electrify the mobility of Malaysians.
Proton CEO Dr Li Chunrong said the national automaker's first EV will be launched before end-2024.
At the e.MAS launch at Proton's Centre of Excellence headquarters today, Li said the company's EVs would leverage technologies such as Geely Auto's GMA (Global Modular Architecture).
He said GMA would underpin PHEVs (plug in hybrids) and BEVs (battery EVs) for Proton. Five EVs are expected to roll out under e.MAS.
Li added that Proton EVs would be produced in the country, to serve the domestic market and also for global export.
BYD's Blade batteries would power the Proton EVs.
Today's event also saw the unveiling of the e.MAS logo.
To date, Proton has appointed 17 dealers nationwide to provide sales and after-sales services for EVs.
The company plans to expand its EV dealer network to over 20 locations by the end of 2024.
Proton EV buyers would also be able to access an app to navigate to charging points.
