SEBERANG PERAI: The Proton S70's range capacity was pushed to the limit during the Penang Proton One Tank Challenge.
Held as part of the district level Hari Sukan Negara celebrations for Seberang Perai Tengah, the challenge saw 33 S70 owners tour through a scenic 110km route from 8am to 2pm.
Encompassing roads on the island and mainland, as well as both bridges linking Penang island to Seberang Prai, the goal was to see who would record the lowest fuel consumption (litre/100 km) - calculated precisely by the amount of fuel required to top up the tank upon their return.

Each car was filled to the brim and had their fuel door flaps sealed before departing to ensure everybody competed on an equal footing.
Participants then had to cover a route which took them across both the mainland and the island, starting at Setia Sentral Juru as they head first to Bayan Lepas and George Town via the second Penang Bridge.
The drivers then in an extensive loop would complete the challenge by returning to the starting point by going across the first Penang Bridge.

By the end of the challenge Abu Bakar Bin Mohd Yusoff received a cash prize amounting to RM1,000 after hew as declared the winner.
Abu Bakar's mix of driving skill and efficiency achieved a result of using just 3.48 litres/100km which according to Proton equates to an average of 31.61km/litre.
This gives the S70 a theoretical maximum range of 1,580km from the sedan’s 50-litre fuel tank.

Second place went to Muhammad Syamim Bin Omar Farook who was rewarded with RM800 after he achieved 3.98 litres/100km.
Mohd Aliff Bin Sani took home a cash prize of RM600 for finishing third after achieving a fuel efficiency figure of 4.40 litres/100km.
In addition to the top fuel economy prize, awards were also presented for best social media engagement that displayed moments with the S70, and a colouring contest for family members of competitors.
