SUBANG JAYA: One more public fast charger has arrived with the introduction of a 100 kWh DC fast charger at the Proton headquarters here.
The charger at Proton's Centre of Excellence was installed by Gentari's subsidiary Gentari Green Mobility and is located at the Proton Crystal showroom.
It is open to all electric vehicle (EV) users, regardless of brand. At present, only one nozzle is activated and a user will need to pay RM2.40/min. Gentari will switch on the second charging point when it moves to kWh pricing soon. As usual, payment through the Gentari network is via Jomcharge, chargEV or Setel apps.
Present at the DC fast charger launch last week were Proton deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah, Pro-Net CEO Zhang Qiang and Gentari Green Mobility chief operating officer Haikal Zubir.
Since signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in October 2022, Gentari and Proton's new energy subsidiary, Pro-Net, have been exploring solutions to strengthen Malaysia's charging network.
This includes the development of a proof-of-concept for a mobile EV charging solution using the Proton Exora.
Three units of the proof-of-concept mobile chargers, each offering 30 kW of charging power, are currently being tested, with ongoing user studies to assess demand.
Pro-Net is also working with Gentari to install fast chargers at several Proton dealerships.
The first phase of the programme aims to install five additional Gentari DC chargers by the end of 2023, with a target of 20 dealerships in total.
In addition, four smart Malaysia dealers have already installed DC chargers from other providers ahead of the launch of their first model, the smart #1.
Proton has committed to producing its own EV models, starting with the mild-hybrid X90.
The company plans to introduce more models featuring hybrid technology in the future.
Alongside this, Proton is working with partners to expand the national charging infrastructure and enhance convenience for customers.
The recently launched Hello smart app provides access to 70% of the national charging map, offering convenience to smart owners.
