KUALA LUMPUR: Proton has repackaged the X90 to engage a slightly different set of audience with the 2026 refresh.
The once D-segment three-row sport utility vehicle (SUV) is now being offered in three variants, namely Lite, Prime and Prime X, which are priced (on-the-road without insurance) at RM106,800 RM116,800 and RM122,800, respectively.
Previously it was offered in four variants of Standard, Executive, Premium, and Flagship, which were similarly priced at RM123,800, RM130,800, RM144,800 and RM152,800.
Warranty is usual five-year unlimited mileage manufacturers coverage, in addition to five years free labour for servicing (previously was six years).

From now until June 30, early adopters get a RM7,000 rebate for new registrations and special launch packages that includes Pro Trade-in which provides overytade support of up to RM3,000.
Customers may also opt for the Proton Insurance Programme, Pro-Shield, which provides enhanced coverage including special perils protection, flood relief coverage of up to RM2,000, and passenger personal accident coverage of up to RM15,000 per person for up to four passengers.
These come on top of the existing insurance benefits such as betterment waiver up to 10 years, agreed-value protection, all-driver coverage, key replacement, personal accident coverage for policyholder, and 24-hour roadside assistance.
Regardless, this drops the X90's prices down to RM99,800 for the Lite, RM109,800 for the Prime and RM115,800 for the Prime X.
Additionally, packages where revealed to help with ownership, such as Pro Finance, which provides a low interest rate of 1.95% based on a nine-year loan and 90% repayment.

Finally, there's Pro-Xchange of a RM4,000 support for deregistration of non-roadworthy trade-in vehicles.
For colour options, it now includes a new Quartz Black, along with the usual Marine Blue, Snow White, Armour Silver, and Jet Grey - gone is Ruby Red.
The X90 has updated its powertrain, which now uses the 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged mill producing 181PS at 5,500rpm and 290Nm of torque from 2,000rpm to 3,500rpm, while being paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
No longer is the 1.5-litre (1,477cc) three-cylinder turbo with a mild-hybrid motor that provided 177PS at 5,500rpm and 255Nm from 1,500 to 4,000rpm.
The mild-hybrid system provided 14PS and 52Nm, bringing its total systems output to 190PS and 300Nm.

Externally, the X90 retains its familiar looks, now with roof rails (75kg limit), along with alloy wheels now standardised to 18-inch across the range and fitted with Giti Control P10 tyres, doing away with the previous fitment of Continental EcoContact 6 tyres.
Inside, the cabin continues to focus on space and comfort for up to seven occupants, while providing a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Unfortunately, wireless charging is no longer available, including 4G and WiFi, which means no access to the Hi Proton voice commands and the Proton Link App that provides owners with Vehicle Status information and Remote Control access - hence the lack of a five-year data package of 1GB per month that was previously provided.
In terms of standard features, the Lite provides full-LED headlights with daytime runners, front sequential turn signals, power-folding external mirrors and front welcome lights.

Within the cabin, it will no longer feature a panoramic sunroof, but will have a 3.5-inch meter combination instrument cluster, steering wheel wrapped in leatherette, steering mode selection, and leatherette upholstered seats.
There's also automatic dual-zone climate controls, six speakers, seven USB ports, and remote engine start.
For safety, a reverse camera and a walk-away locking system have been included, along with six airbags.
Moving up to the Prime adds an automatic function for the headlights and wipers, as well as follow-me-home lights.
Meanwhile, the instrument cluster gets up-sized to a 10.3-inch meter combination, and the driver will now be able to enjoy six-way powered adjustability for their seat.
A 360-degree camera system with 180-degree transparent view, including a tyre-pressure monitoring system and front parking sensors are now included.
As for the Prime X, Nappa leather now upholster the seats, before adding on ventilation (for both front seats), as well as two-way lumbar adjustability for the driver, and four-way power adjustability and Boss Switch controls for the front passenger.
Furthermore, opting for the Prime X means captain seats are now used for the second-row - turning the X90 into a six-seater, before adding a digital video recorder, and using upgraded headrests for added ergonomics and comfort.
Lastly, the newly revised X90 no longer features advanced driver aids (ADAS) that were initially found in the legacy model, which included autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, rear collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and prevention, lane centring control, emergency lane keep assist, traffic sign information, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, intelligent high beam control, and auto park assist.
