PETALING JAYA: Proton says sales in April totalled 9,415 units which took its total sales for the first four months of the year to 49,702 units.

April sales grew by 6.5% year-on-year (y-o-y) while its four-month sales growth was 39.8% y-o-y, the national automaker said yesterday. Its market share for the month is estimated to be 20.4%.

The X50 remained the best-selling B-segment sport utility vehicle (SUV) with 2,644 units delivered in April, while the 1,263 Persona delivered last month, made it the leader in the B-segment sedan market. Meanwhile, 465 units of the Exora were sold in the month along with 3,949 Sagas.

The X70 and Iriz achieved sales of 756 units and 338 units respectively.

“With the X90 due to be officially launched by the Prime Minister on May 7, the company will soon have a three model SUV range to strengthen our position in the segment as well as its first model in the "New Energy Vehicle" market.

“This will help form a good base for our future model offerings and give ’s network of outlets invaluable experience in selling and servicing these vehicles,” said Roslan Abdullah, deputy chief executive officer of Proton.

Exports totalled 187 units in April with the most popular export model being the Saga followed by the X50 and X70 respectively, the company said. Total export sales for the first four months of the year currently stands at 603 units.

“Proton’s export volume for 2023 has been slow to reach the expected volume due to several external global economic factors.

“However, we remain positive about our overseas sales prospects this year and are actively working with our partners to raise the profile of the brand as well as promote our intelligent products,” added Roslan.
